An Allegory of Confusion – Trying to Grasp an Idea
The idea of a metaphor or allegory was a very broad prompt, and I struggled in that openness to conjure up just one solid idea. Even though we had complete freedom to go in any direction, I felt isolated, as though I was floating in space. I determined that I would simply expand upon and illustrate that feeling.
The main figure represents the Artist in her struggle to conquer the vast expanses of possibility. Flying around her are the Ideas she so desperately tries to grab a hold of and pin down, in hopes of making them her own, to “ride” as a noble steed for her own artistic advancement. However, she does not reach for just any Idea, but a Good Idea, one of those bright creatures flying towards the light. Flying down below her are Distractions – Ideas that are easier to reach, but are not worth nearly as much.
The light which emanates from the figure herself, from the space above her, and from the eyes of the Good Ideas all represents potential, and simultaneously, sentience. While the Artist contains within her the possibility for her artistic success, there is also great potential in these new Ideas she has yet to grasp. The eyes of the Ideas glow because of that certain quality ideas have – we may come to them on our own, through various means and trains of thought; but sometimes they simply present themselves to us, almost as if they have a mind of their own.
The glow, poses and those winged creatures look amazing!!
